Gorges State Park?

Transylvania County, NC

The picture you were looking at is probably the most recognizable waterfall in Transylvania County, and possibly the Southeastern United States - Whitewater Falls. This magnificent waterfall is regarded as the tallest waterfall in the Eastern U.S. at 411 feet.

What is a bit curious is that this photo graces the official North Carolina State Parks web site for the new Gorges State Park. The thing that is wrong with the picture is that Whitewater Falls is in the Nantahal National Forest, not the state park.

Perhaps a more approriate photograph would be of Bearwallow Falls (left). Bearwallow Falls is the cornerstone of Gorges State Park, North Carolina's westernmost state park.
